Simulations for the HEC Prototype Module (Version 2)

This is a working area: changes are possible

Last modified September 03, 1997

Version 2 of the HEC test-beam Monte Carlo software (HEC-TB-MC) is still the version for the HEC prototype module (test runs at CERN in 1996).

The main changes w.r.t. the previous version (which is called now version 1) are the following:

These software is installed in the following area:
/home/iws109a1/atlas/lhc/testbeam/version_2

Examples of macros to run jobs and of corresponding datacards: /home/iws109a1/atlas/lhc/testbeam/version_2/job

Simulated particles: pions at Xcryostat=10.0 cm, Ytable=5.28 cm ("pad 9/90")
2000 events per each energy point

Simulated data (banks GEOM, KINE, HITS, DIGI) are kept on tapes at MPI.

FZ-banks with calorimeter cell energies and MWPC hits: /at/data1/tb_mc_2/*.bank
In the table below the size of bank-files is given.

GCALOR GHEISHA FLUKA TB run number
Energy, GeV File name Size, MBytes File name Size, MBytes File name Size, MBytes Pad 9 Pad 90
20 p020n 10.2 g020n 8.0 f020n 9.8 6132 6120 6121
40 p040n 14.6 g040n 11.5 f040n 13.3 6131 6119
60 p060n 17.6 g060n 14.3 f060n 16.0 6130 6118 6227
80 p080n 20.0 g080n 16.4 f080n 18.1 6129 6117
100 p100n 22.6 g100n 18.2 f100n 20.0 6128 6239 6244 6115 6116

150 p150n 27.3 g150n 22.3 f150n 23.8 6164 6185
200 p200n 31.2 g200n 25.8 f200n 26.9 6175 6176

Average CPU time per one GeV of the initial pion energy in an event equals to 1.86, 1.24 and 1.65 sec for GCALOR, GHEISHA and FLUKA respectively for the iws118b computer (see the table with MPI computer rates)

What can be found at CERN?

All files with the code were copied to the HEC test-beam disk at CERN. They can be found under the directory: /afs/cern.ch/atlas/testbeam/HEC/mc/soft/version_2
To get a working (at CERN) version of the code, it is necessary at least to make changes in the install-kumac.

Files with FZ-banks, obtained at MPI with the version 2 of the HEC-TB-MC software, are stored also on an exabyte tape at CERN. The list of them can be found in the file mc_data.log in the directory /afs/cern.ch/atlas/testbeam/HEC/mc/data.
